| About Definitive Swing |
Starting his musical career at the tender age of 12, Definitive Swing began playing guitar and singing in bands in his native Belfast during the mid-90s, before turning to dance music around 1998. His first gigs took the form of live PAs using a drum machine and sampler, playing alongside the likes of King Unique, Peace Division and Marshall Jefferson.
After a short spell working at the legendary FFRR and Strictly Rhythm labels, Definitive Swing began remixing, playing and writing dance music full-time. His first release was a remix of Afro Medusa's 'Dreams', subsequently licensed as a single to Warner Music in Italy in 2002. Following this came a number of major label remixes including US soul sensations Calvin Richardson and Angie Irons. The latter was picked up by New York based Robbins Music and licensed across the world, appearing on various labels and compilations.
During this time Definitive Swing's DJing profile began to rise, leading to gigs at Space and Cafe Savannah in Ibiza, Turnmills in London, Passion in Coalville and Blend in Derby to name but a few. Over the past 5 years Definitive Swing has DJ'ed alongside such luminaries as Pete Tong, Marshall Jefferson, Terry Francis and even Shaun Ryder!
Under his Monofonic guise, Definitive Swing has remixed and worked with Martina Topley-Bird of Tricky fame and most recently Howard Jones's comeback single! As S.MS, with veteran house DJ Matt Shepherd, Definitive Swing his recently reworked the Masterbuilders' 'It's Alright', debuting in the Hype Chart top 10.
After 2 years of remixing and producing others, Definitive Swing teamed up with seasoned Afro-Cuban outfit Lido 66 to produce 'Suavemente', a cover of the Crespo Kings' classic. Sendings dancefloors across the globe stir crazy, the track was recently picked up by Slip 'n' Slide to head their new Klubb Latino 2 compilation.
2006 sees the launch of Definitive Swing Records, a digital-only, upfront house label focusing on original songs and productions. The debut release 'Take You There' by Definitive Swing featuring Ruby Red is out now. Advance promos are available from Karma Download.com and Juno Records Digital.
